The Golden Boy would be proud

Happy Birthday to Chris who I'm sure joins us in celebrating our cup victory.

Real Wood vs Redland Beagles

Real Wood FC  0 – 0 Redland Beagles
(after extra time)
Real Wood won 5-4 on penalties

Harry Mottram Cup 2012-13
Sunday 9th Sep 2012 @ Fry's Keynsham,

Before a record crowd (certainly double figures if you include subs) we put in a good performance to deserve our passage through to the next round. This represents a ‘cup run’ by previous standards.

With a little more luck or precision in our finishing we could have secured a victory earlier and saved ourselves from the extra time heat and the anxiety of penalties. However as it turned out Louis was called in to make an excellent time just as we approached the end of normal time which kept us in the tie.
Ever eager to grab the limelight it was Louis who saved Beagles 7th penalty and secured victory by scoring the following kick in a ‘Champagne Moment’ to take us through.
Despite Louis’ heroics the unanimous decision for ‘Man of the Match went to Tom for a tremendous performance throughout.

In addition to the result there were many positives to be drawn from this match.
We still had 14 players despite several late drop outs which means that we have a pretty healthy squad. (Well large if not healthy!)
Everyone responded well to the team shuffles which Mark managed well and gave everyone a chance to have a run out.
I had offers to provide lifts, referee and to wash kit when asked which makes my life a lot easier.

There were times when we looked somewhat disorganised in the midfield and fitness was seriously tested but an excellent performance can make us optimistic for the new season.
My aim for this season was to complete all our league fixtures but who knows we might even produce some good football along the way.

Real Wood AGM minutes

Real Wood AGM
Wednesday 29th September ’12, Golden Guinea, Bristol
Present:  Rich T, Batts, Swifty, Bertie, Colin, Will, Andy
Manager’s Report:
Thanks for those that made it to the AGM.
In the absence of funds and planning we did not have presentations this year, however;
Thanks to Les for running the Tuesday 5s and captaining the side in our successful 1st season. Les has also offered the services of Rachel (beyond the call of duty) to look after our finances so I feel he should take the ‘Club Man of the Year’ award. Thanks also to Bertie for providing a venue for the fund-raising barbeque, for regularly providing players and along with Swifty for providing support and guidance.
Many thanks to Mark for successfully taking over the organising of the Thursday 5s which has been a great help. My nomination for Mark as the season’s ‘Most Improved Player’ was agreed at the AGM for his excellent midfield performances.
Any doubts over the ‘Golden Boot’ award were settled by Colin’s 5 goals in the Curry Cup to add to his league tally.
We were unable to reach a decision on ‘Player of the Year’ as this demanded a level of recall no longer accessible to us. However special applause goes to Ola, Tim and Bill for regularly polling the majority of the ‘Man of the Match’ votes.
I was very pleased with the performances we put in and with us managing to get a team together to complete most of our fixtures. I hope we can aim to complete them all this year.
Several of us continue to spread ourselves around a bit so I will endeavour to liaise with Jack from Voyager to avoid clashes when I can.
Agenda
Roles:
Currently:
Rich T - Club captain/manager, organiser for 11-a-side matches.
Les - Team captain, organiser Goals League 5-a-side (Tuesdays)
Mark - Organiser Club 5-a-side (Thursdays)
Rachel - Treasurer
Subs/Expenses:
Last season we did not pay membership so operated pay-as-you-play. Costs for balls, whistle, kit, gloves, fines (for cancellations) etc were met by funds from the 5s sessions.
This season we propose;
11-a-side £10 annual subs payable at the start of the season. (Please bring your £10 annual subs+ match subs to cup match on 9th Sept) Match subs collected from all players to cover cost of pitch plus ref. Agreed at AGM.
5-a-side no annual subs but any excess will be used to will subsidise club expenses. Weekly subs will be collected to cover costs currently £5 per head.  Agreed at AGM.
Rachel to record as treasurer

Kit:
All black kit 1st choice, all blue for 'away' kit.
Sponsor needed if we want new kit as we don’t want to pay.
Volunteers to wash kit on match-by-match basis.  Agreed at AGM.
Referees:
We are required to provide refs for home fixtures. We agreed to pay £20 per match when we have a proper referee (didn't have much luck with this last season so offers & suggestions welcome.) When we have not found ref then there's an expectation that all will volunteer to take a turn. Agreed at AGM.
Substitutes:
General rule is that if you show up you will get run-out so all should be willing to take their turn as sub. Substitutes should be willing to run the line/ref as required. Agreed except Gary Wilding
Home pitch:
Fry's last season so I've kept with it. They have toughened up a bit and I have had to sign there rules which include expelling & fining clubs damaging or littering the site. There is also an expectation that we and our opponents will use the Fry’s bar after matches so please can we do this when possible and encourage our opponents to do so too.
Communication
Email is easiest and cheapest but text also being used as well as the blog http://realwoodfc.blogspot.co.uk/ so please make sure I have you email addresses and mobile phone numbers.
Any other business:
Proposal of club fines for not turning up to matches was not adopted but should be noted as seriously frowned upon.
We agreed that at this stage we would not limit numbers as turning up on Saturdays as in the past we have had a lot of no-shows. This may need to be reviewed but it does stress the need for players to reply to emails and texts.
Request for new gloves and bibs for Thursdays.
Some people would like to play earlier on Thursdays. This is not currently an option on 3G but if the majority want this we can look into it.
It was agreed that Mark would stand in for Les on Sundays if/when necessary.

Curry Cup 2nd leg

Real Wood 6 vs 1 Voyager
There are times to blog and ...........
Sunshine once again greeted the Curry Cup. Both sides proved that all-weather or grass they can provide all the ingredients for a terrific evening. It's been said that Swifty and Colin were the difference between the sides, others felt that Matt Buck's calm influence, Dean's goal-keeping or Rich's availability (?) may have swung it. Whatever there were some excellent moments of football and friendship followed by a delicious curry. Some awoke on Saturday aching from the football, some aching from their 40-minute limp home others basked in the knowledge they bagged 5 goals or simply played their socks off and had a ball.

Hope everyone enjoyed the event as much as me, please add comments. Favourite moment?

Tribute to Chris Lester

Today marks the 1st anniversary of Chris's death and I'm sure for many of us, like the deaths of JFK and Princess Di depending on your age, you'll recall where you were when you were learned the incomprehensible news. Just as then what better way to mark the event than with a win. In fact the last 7 days has provided 3 consecutive victories for Real Wood and Real Madras and I for one have loved every minute of them. Real Wood, formerly Real Madras, formerly the Bouncy Clowns has a history of more than 10 years now. We have replaced the bottle blonde with the natural grey (me) and brunette (Les) but have retained the spirit that Chris created. We've introduced a new aptitude for winning having been promoted in the Tuesday league and are currently undefeated this season but hopefully not at all costs. Yes the club has moved on and changed but we'd be fools to not to remember our roots and I hope we can all take a moment to say thanks Chris for the memories and the legacy.
