Re-branding

The discussion about a new kit has inspired Mark to suggest rebranding ie renaming our team (don't know how well this will go down with the league secretary who's been beavering away on the new website but that's his problem).
Real Sociedad = Real Sociopath or Real Social-Dad
Real Zaragosa = Real 'ave-a-go-Sir

Real Valladolid- Real Invalid

Any thoughts?

This website http://www.oldfootballshirts.com/en/teams/r/ will give you the names of lots of 'Real' team names for those of you wanting inspiration.

Rich

Response from Andy:
The best thing about playing (occasionally) for Real Madras was telling people who you played for.  It almost always raised a smile (apart from my wife who doesn't do football).
Anyway Real Wood does not, unfortunately inspire any such reaction, so I'm all in favour of injecting a bit of long-lost humour back into the name.

I think there's one obvious choice.  We all agree that we must move with the times and keep the name fresh and relevant.

So, on that basis I recommend Real Chennai.

For those of you not geographically inclined; Madras changed its name to Chennai in 1996.  Sadly many of the Indian restaurants in and around Bristol have not yet reacted to this change although I for one would happily order a Chicken or Prawn Chennai.  I'm sure the Redland Tandoori could be persuaded to reprint their menus.  After all, we put enough business their way.

Response from Tom:
Really states
Real stationary

Swifty's view:
Don't really have a view on the rebranding although the Iberian Peninsula does throw up a few possibilities...

Sporting Lesbian
Benfaeca
Espamroll
Real Bettys...

AGM July 2014

Real Wood FC AGM
Thursday 3rd July, 7:30-8:30 @ Goals Brislington

Present: Carl, Mark, Will, Rich, Jim, Jimmer, Les, Felix, Swifty, Tom, Jack

Rich went through brief highlights of the season.
Presentations: Felix – Golden Boot for top scorer and Tom unanimously voted as Player of the Year. (pics asap).
Les went through the finances and we discussed;
·         Charity donation – agreed £100 to St Peter’s Hospice for the help and support they gave to Carly & Colin. Les will liaise with Colin.
·         Medals to award for achieving promotion to be looked into by Jim.
·         New kit. Agreed that we would move away from any connection with Franco’s Real Madrid and links to other ‘Real’ clubs suggested. Rich’s favourite Real Sociedad though any similarity to Huddersfield Town is purely coincidental.
·         Agreed £20 annual subs which some people paid please can you get your money to Les if you haven’t. Also agreed £6 match subs for 11-a-side and 5-a-side matches. We hope to continue using the referees we have been using which obviously incurs costs but everyone felt it is worth it.
Jack gave an overview of his strategic plan for Henleaze Corinthians (Div 3), Voyager (new over 45s Division) and Real Wood (Div 3).

Lots of mutual appreciation.

Thanks everyone for attending or sending votes for Player of the Season.
Curry Cup 25th July will include presentation of promotion medals.

It was great to have Swifty back telling us what to do and playing with authority and terrific to have Bertie back so soon showing us what a talented footballer he is and how to catch the ball when it’s going over your head!

Comments:

3 essential ingredients:

1.       Good goalkeeper: we’ve been blessed by having Louis, Carl, Pete and Dave Q.

2.       Defence : A stable back 4. Tom & Jack have been outstanding centre backs and Rich, Jim, Carl, Batty & Bertie have all put in some excellent performances at fullback.

3.       Goals: Jimmer has proved an excellent lone striker and for the most part has created his goals by pressurising opposition defences. Felix has produced some great performances and goals. There was only one match where Real Wood scored and Felix didn’t and that was the draw against Hillcrest Doggers when he didn’t play.

As well as these factors we’ve had consistently good performances from Bill, Rick, Les and Swifty and everyone has commented on Matt Pat’s terrific season.

We started the season relying on the help of youth (Kyle & Aaron) and outstanding ability in the shape of Gary. We put in some great team performances but goals and assists from these guys undoubtedly led to us winning matches.

Champagne moments? Some great strikes from Felix, tremendous headers from Tom and a goal worthy of any World Cup from Batty.

In the end promotion was clinched by a match-winning free kick from Jack.

Many happy returns in the shape of Les & Swifty leading us on the field and Mark whose help and encouragement from the side when he was unable to play contributed to the team’s success. Due to his family and Man Utd commitments we may not see so much of him next season but his help has been much appreciated.

The tragic loss of Carly meant that Colin was able to re-join the squad and someone else’s loss meant that Bertie could once again contribute.

Extra effort: Many thanks to Jimmer for collecting money and Les for spending it. Special thanks to Matt Pat for organising the Thursday 5s which needs a boost as he’s been struggling to get enough so please let him have your number if you can play.

I am aware that at the end of last season we became rather focussed on winning promotion and I’d like to assure people that whilst I want us to continue playing excellent football and, if possible, getting good results, it is important that we remember we who we are and why we’re playing for Real Wood and I want people to feel valued and that they are getting enough time on the pitch. We’ve got a terrific group together and the idea is to enjoy playing together.

News from the league AGM:

Formation of the over 45’s division. Jack will be running Henleaze Corinthians and Voyager this season. Voyager will be moving to the new over 45’s division and hopefully we’ll continue to support both his teams.

Astro turf is now acceptable as long as it is of a quality approved by the league. Several teams in the league will be using astro pitches as their home venue and it won’t be acceptable to say refuse to play on astro. The Corinthians votes will now be essential to promote fair play. When the new league website is up and running we will be able to enter our own results but will have to include a Corinthians score for the opposition.

Thanks everyone for another great season.
Onwards and upwards to Division 3.
Rich
