Unathletico Vets Away - Cup, Sunday 25th Sept 2011
Short notice, afternoon kick off, first competitve match as Real Wood but nevertheless we managed to field a team of 11; new signing, Ola, in goal, Rich T, Tim, Bertie and Jon across the back; Bill, Tall Mark, Jimmer and Batty in midfield with Colin & Tony as our strike force. It was an uphill struggle and without some excellent saves by Ola and defending by Tim the 4-1 defeat could have been more. Newcomer Ola managed the somewhat makeshift defence as well as directing Colin goalward, route 1 style, to score our only goal. Ola overwhelming won the Man of the Match Award, honourable mention to Tim and special appreciation to Bertie and Tony who had already turned out for other teams in the rain that morning.
However it was a cup match so now we can concentrate on the league and there were plenty of positive performances that only need a bit of blending and match practice together to produce results. And a couple of subs would help even things up a bit!

Shipham 5s
We managed to enter a team for the Shipham 5s competition and I felt equipped ourselves well. We needed to poach players to field a full team but I felt the Real Wood players demonstrated the benefits of all those long hours training and ayed some good football with a respectable level of fitness. There's always one or two teams that take the whole thing a bit too seriously but the weather, view, bangers & burgers were excellent and a good day out was had. Well done to those that made the trip.
what's the latest....
The news on the discussions about us quitting Brislington and joining the Filton over 35s for our Tuesday work out have been rendered irrelevant as the Filton league has folded and we have agreed to continue for the new 18 week season at Bris. We'll see what challenges our division offers but hopefully continue.
Despite last week's victory tonight's fixture against ABBA (2nd in the division with 11 wins from 13 matches) didn't look like a great proposition but although we lost we offered a real challenge to ABBA. There were several changes to the squad (yes we managed to field 7 players tonight and seemed to cope well with the changes). With no Abrahams available and a rare absence by Matt B old handers Swifty, Keith and me took to the rubber-crumb with Jimmer plus very useful newcomer to Real, Levi and Rick with our new youth policy now that Sam has been lured to the US in the shape of James. I took the decision to play in goal as I can pick the ball out of the net as well as the next man and I was able to admire the competitive and skillful display from the Madras boys. Throughout the 2nd half it was ABBa that were asking their bessy mate (the referee) how long to go as we were able to match the physical threat from ABBA. When one of the ABBA players got arsey with Levi he quietly scored a goal and this seemed to be the Madras attitude throughout. Yes we lost but with dignity and an all round excellent performance. ABBA & DUNNO will be promoted and we look forward with confidence to the new season
